Podcast: Ayurveda and Cancer

In the podcast: Ayurveda and Cancer, we explore how Ayurveda, India’s traditional system of medicine, views cancer as a disease. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), “Cancer is a leading cause of death worldwide, accounting for nearly 10 million deaths in 2020, or nearly one in six deaths”.

Ayurveda: The Science of Life

Ayurveda, the “science of life”, is a traditional system of medicine that has its roots in India. Its whole paradigm is built on understanding the connection of nature, body, mind, and spirit. And as a truly holistic medical system, the understanding of disease, diagnosis, treatment, and prevention is based entirely on the interconnectedness and interrelatedness of these elements. Ayurveda uses many herbal remedies, medicinal oils, and physical therapies to heal and prevent disease. It also emphasizes the importance of diet, exercise, and mental and emotional balance for healing.

Besides being very effective in treating chronic illnesses, Ayurveda has a strong preventative intention in its approach. It constantly reminds and encourages us of the importance of a balanced lifestyle. We all can improve our health and well-being through sometimes even simple lifestyle changes. And since the path to health and well-being is uniquely individual, we have to first get an understanding of our unique Ayurvedic constitution before we can select the best daily routine, diet and medicines.

Ayurveda, with its unique treatment methods pre- and post-chemotherapy, should be seen much more as a synergistic player next to allopathic medicine in the cure of cancer, rather than an alternative approach or rival medical system. Ayurvedic expert, Dr Sujatha Kekada, the head physician of Amrtasiddhi, an Ayurvedic Centre based in Bali, Indonesia and the #1 Ayurvedic Centre in South-East Asia, speaks to Colette Kent about this fascinating topic Ayurveda and Cancer.
