Ayurvedic View on Hashimoto's Disease

Podcast: Hashimoto and Ayurveda with Dr. Sujatha Kekada

Dr. Sujatha Kekada talks about the Ayurvedic View on Hashimoto’s Disease.

Hashimoto’s disease is one of the most common thyroid diseases in the world. It is an autoimmune disease in which the thyroid gland is attacked by the body’s own immune system. This results in chronic inflammation of the thyroid gland. Over time, the thyroid gland is able to produce fewer and fewer hormones, leading to hypothyroidism.

An underfunction of the thyroid gland caused by Hashimoto’s disease can manifest itself in many different symptoms. These include, for example, disturbances in concentration, fatigue, hair loss or an unwanted weight gain. All these symptoms are very stressful for those affected and can make it difficult to cope with everyday life.

Ayurveda-based treatments can help alleviate symptoms and improve the management of the disease. According to the Ayurvedic view on Hashimoto’s disease, the disease is attributed to an imbalance of the Kapha Dosha. In order to get the doshas back into balance, a change in the way of life is necessary. This includes, for example, a change in diet, more exercise and the reduction of stress.

Dr. Sujatha Kekada, our in-house expert on Ayurveda, sheds light on Hashimoto’s disease from an ayurvedic perspective in this podcast episode. Learn interesting facts about the causes and treatment options of the disease from the point of view of Ayurveda!
